I adopted the nickname "Playboy" when we formed our first group in 1979. The Grandmaster Three was Leon Taylor, who named himself "Lovable Little B", Derek Parks aka D Money, who changed his name to "Everloving Kid Ice" and me, who chose "Playboy Mikey D". Our DJ John Faulcon aka Mr. Freeze, who changed his name to "Johnnie Quest" after being called Johnny Quest by Mark Miller so many times. 😂
Back then a playboy was someone that was cool, and had multiple girlfriends. I definitely thought I was cool. I was also a little pretty boy. A little light skinned dude with wavey hair, and hazel eyes. You couldn't tell me nothing.
During this time I started building a reputation for being a fresh emcee, and for being a solidified "Playboy". I was so proud to claim that name, I went to Hillside Ave in Jamaica Queens to "Docs", the gold tooth spot, and got a tooth permanently placed.
As time went on, I became more aggressive as a emcee. I was still a ladies man, but lyrically I was becoming more competitive. I wanted to battle any and everybody. I went from this innocent kid to a teenage lyrical beast. During this time I felt the playboy roll was too soft for the type of emcee I've become. This is when I changed my name to Mikey Destruction!! I was destroying every rapper in my path. I was also destroying myself. I started drinking a whole lot of 40's, and doing a whole lot of crazy shit!! I was basically becoming a liability. After years of excessive drinking and wreckless behavior, I finally decided that enough is enough!! I quit all the self destructive activities, and decided drop everything, get away, and start over. Now I've been sober for 13 years, and never felt better. I even reclaimed the name "Playboy". It doesn't mean I have a bunch of women, or that I'm a player. It simply means I'm super confident, down to earth, and my swag is on a thousand!! 💯💯💪🏽💪🏽
